Will Cash Stay Out in the Rain?

It was raining and drizzling a little yesterday, but despite the weather we decided to take a walk. Amber stays with us from time to time, she is a mix between a Rusky Toy and a Shih Tzu. We forgot one of their leashes in the car so we decided to connect Amber to Cash via a wire that we have previously installed on Cash's harness.

There were times when it felt like Cash was dragging Amber because of how small her steps are and how much faster Cash's pace is, but we did this for only about 2 meters. It was just from the door to the garage, just so neither of them would run away. Below is Amber after walking for almost an hour outside. I guess I could say that she almost started looking like a big rat, a much smaller one than Cash, of course.

The video below is when we got inside. Although they could be the best of friends at any given time, they could also be the worst of enemies and can bark or fight each other without end unless we step in to stop them. I tried putting subtitles on the video because I was talking in Swedish but I was basically telling Cash to either go outside in the rain or stay inside and stop fighting with Amber. Did he listen? Did he want to go out into the rain instead? We'll see!

I've translated the conversation since we only talk to him in Swedish and/or Filipino :) Switch on the captions (2nd icon on the lower right hand of the screen) for subtitles.

First Birthday!

Just The Bowl After Eating The Birthday Food! Definitely wiped clean!

What is in a birthday? It is that special day when you show your appreciation to the people you love and make them feel how important they are to you especially on this time of the year when they were born.

Cash has been with us since June and I know that it has only been a little over six months but he has indeed changed our lives forever. On this day, we want to him to know how special he is. Last night, at exactly 12 midnight, Husse and I sang a happy birthday song to him in Swedish. We also told him that he will eat a very special type of food that we can only serve once every year :)

When we woke up this morning after he had done his #1 and #2, he came up to us and kept wagging his tail. Unfortunately, we have not bought the food for his celebration yet. Neither have we prepared it, so I assumed he was so hungry that he ate the leftover dry dog food he had in his bowl from yesterday. We went to the grocery store, got a couple of chicken sausages and meatballs.

I could not say that he waited patiently by our feet while we started slicing and cooking his food. IF he could jump enough to get on the kitchen counter, he would have probably done it so here is the first video for today of Husse giving him a "taste test" of the chicken sausage!

We try to give him treats at least once a day (Dentastix), and a dog biscuit if we have to leave him for some hours at home. Food has always been our main concern since we have adopted him, one that gives him much sustenance. Since it is his birthday, we decided to give him something different.

First Birthday of Cash!First Birthday of Cash!

So, the first layer was rice with bearnaise sauce. Second layer was meatballs and chicken sausage topped with bearnaise sauce. Here is how it looks!

Luxurious Lunch for the First Birthday of Cash!

Below is the video on how we tried to make him calm down first before going head-on to the bowl :D

There you have it, I think my voice was a bit too high-pitched since I was really excited and happy for him on this day. As you can see in the background, there was a bit of mess in the kitchen as renovations are still ongoing! See you on the next post :)

Walking In The Forest

We walked in the forest today as we have read somewhere that it would always be good to walk your dog everyday.

Cash tried staying out of my path but he walks and runs around bushes and gets tangled around them when he tries to come back to me.

Patience is what I have, especially when we are trying to talk to him in Swedish. Everything is pretty new to him, of course. Surroundings, the language, and us. So, we try to keep explaining to him that he shouldn't be running around the bushes because he gets tangled plus the rope burns my skin when he runs around me as well. I would explain this to him while I slowly untangle the leash.

Above is a picture of Cash, enjoying the sun!

We then gave him a treat after the walk. Above is a picture of him enjoying a chew bone on a really soft and furry blanket, surrounded by pillows!

Oh yeah, there's this app on the iPhone where my brother edited his picture. He said this is how the portrait of Cash would be if he were Japanese! I think he looks good in black and white. Time to go to bed now, and see you all on the next post!

First Day Home

On the way home from the airport, Cash fell asleep on the car instantly. He was definitely tired from the trip, so I placed my hand under his chin, because his head keeps falling off onto the hand break. He must have been very exhausted, since he was drooling too haha!

My husband and I watched several videos on housebreaking a pup, one of which is entitled "How To Potty Train a Puppy - How to House Train Your Dog" by HowdiniGuru.

The first thing I did was bring him to his potty area and repeated the words bajsa and kissa, which directly translates to pee (#1) and poop (#2). We decided to use the direct words in swedish so it is easier for him to understand. However, he might have been highly stressed that he was not able to do either of those so I tried walking him around for a bit before we went into the apartment.

Walking was difficult, as he kept looking up at me. He would walk on my path and the leash ends up around my feet, almost always tripping me. I could not get mad, though. He was just too cute! Although, I was firm at telling him to walk straight and to stop looking at me. Hard part was that maybe he only understood Romanian commands, and I was talking in Swedish.

By the time we got home, it took awhile before husse came home. At first, he started barking and growling at him because he did not know who he was. It was just I and my sister-in-law who picked up Cash at the airport, so maybe Cash thought we were the ones he was going to move in with!

Anyway, husse approached steadily. I introduced them to each other by hugging husse and motioning for Cash to go to us. Cash's tail was wagging happily and our smiles widened.

Before getting dinner, we hung out at the courtyard to relax a little. I took a picture of Cash to show to family and friends, and they all said that he has huge ears :D

Then, we had dinner, and we scrubbed him for his first bath. I am assuming he felt refreshed to be cleaned before going to bed!

Well, that concludes the trip and the first day with us and good night for now!

Moving Home

Today is Wednesday! The angels, Maria and Christel, flew with Cash from Romania to Arlanda Airport, and helped the pets to their new homes in Sweden. Pick-up is at the arrival area as soon as they arrive.

It will be great! I am sure Cash will miss his mom, Anita, and his other siblings, but this is his time to explore the world :)

Some other pets are also being rescued with him: Agria, Alex, Sorina, Paola, and Ozana! Here are some of the pictures below. For more pictures of this arrival, check out Dog Rescue on their homepage!

Here we are!

Here is a video of us and the other families!!

Cute Little Cash

...or at least that is what I, matte wants to say. In Swedish, it means female owner and husse means male owner. These are words I should start teaching him when he comes home with us in a couple of weeks!

We are excited and very happy to adopt a dog, it is our way of helping out on one of the biggest problems in the world: pet overpopulation.

As for this entry: see his pictures and a video of his really cute family members at the rescue shelter in Romania! Anita is his mother, and they are five in the family. His other siblings are Blair, Nana, Bing, and Dora.
